Abstract:
The quality of education relies significantly on teachers’ subject knowledge, teaching skills, and professional preparation. Teachers not only deliver the curriculum, but also contribute to students’ intellectual and personal development. Teacher education must therefore prepare teachers to respond thoughtfully to learners’ varied needs. The National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 emphasises multidisciplinary learning, practical training, learner-centred pedagogy, and continuous professional development. This paper reviews these provisions, considers potential benefits, and discusses challenges in implementation. It is based on the policy document and selected academic literature. The review shows that NEP 2020 offers a valuable direction for reform, but its effectiveness will depend on institutional resources, qualified teacher educators, meaningful school-based practice, and regular evaluation. Lasting improvement requires more than changes in course structure – it requires sustained attention to the quality of teacher preparation.
