Abstract:
This paper examined the effect of integrating Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in lesson delivery on students’ academic achievement and retention in Sociology of Education in Imo State. The study was anchored on Constructivist Theory, Technology Acceptance Model, and Connectivism Theory. ICT integration was conceptualized as the use of digital tools such as multimedia, learning management systems, and internet resources to enhance teaching effectiveness. The paper showed that ICT-based instruction improves students’ understanding of sociological concepts, enhances engagement, and promotes long-term retention through interactive and learner-centred approaches. However, challenges such as inadequate infrastructure, limited teacher competence, and unequal access to technology hinder effective implementation. The paper concludes that ICT integration significantly enhances academic outcomes and recommends improved funding, teacher training, and policy support for sustainable digital education.
