Abstract:

Abstract: Jamdani saree is one of the most important national heritage of Bangladesh. Its weaving technique is one of thefirst inheritances of Bangladesh. From the very beginning of jamdani saree weaving cotton yarn was used as the raw material. The weavers had unique skills to weave the saree. Different natural dyes were used to produce jamdani saree along with finely spun 100% cotton yarn. At present the tradition of using natural dyesand100%cotton yarn has become an option for the weavers and the jamdanitraders for economic and weaving comfort. In this study a jamdani saree was produced with sustainable vegetable dye and 100% cotton yarn 80Ne. It was observed that the weaving lead time and other properties like colorfastness was acceptable compared to the jamdani sarees that are made with synthetic dyes and filament yarn based saree.
