| About: | Dr. Rajendra Darai was born in 1971 AD as the first son of Mr. Buddhi Ram Darai and Mrs. Bimala Darai in Bharatpur Metropolitan City, Ward No. 15, Mangalpur, Chitwan, Nepal. He had completed his school leaving certificate from Shree Rampur Secondary High School, Rampur, Chitwan, Nepal in 1988 AD. He has been interested in agriculture since he was a child and he studied agriculture as a vocational subject in his school level education. Then he joined Tribhuvan University, Institute of Agriculture and Animal Sciences (IAAS), Rampur Campus, Chitwan, Nepal for higher secondary education in Intermediate Science in Agriculture (I.Sc. Ag) and completed it in 1990 AD. He studied for his Bachelor’s Degree in agricultural science with elective agriculture extension education from Tribhuvan University, Institute of Agriculture and Animal Sciences, Rampur Campus, Chitwan, Nepal, and completed it in 1993. He enrolled in the Postgraduate Program for the Degree of Masters of Science in Agriculture with a major in Agronomy at Chandra Shekhar Azad University of Agriculture and Technology (CSAU&T), Kanpur, UP, India (Under ICAR) in 2001 and completed it in 2003. He enrolled for the degree of Philosophy of Doctor (Ph.D.) major in Plant Breeding at the Agriculture and Forestry University, Faculty of Agriculture, Department of Genetics and Plant Breeding, Rampur, Chitwan, in 2015 and completed it in 2020. Professionally, he is a grain legume breeder and has worked as the Coordinator/Senior Scientist(S-4) of the Nepal Agricultural Research Council, Grain Legumes Research Program, mainly focusing on grain legume breeding improvement (conventional, resistance, and molecular breeding). He has published more than 75 research papers in international journals, proceedings, booklets etc. Furthermore, during his 27-year tenure, he has successfully released 15 varieties of different grain legumes for general cultivation to farmers. |
