| About: | Dr. Md. Hemayatul Islam is the Deputy Chief Veterinarian in the Department of Veterinary and Animal Sciences at the University of Rajshahi. He graduated with a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) from Sylhet Agricultural University, followed by a Master of Science in Obstetrics and a Ph.D. from the University of Rajshahi. His Ph.D. research focused on zoonotic diseases causing reproductive disorders in small ruminants, and he notably reported the presence of the tick-borne zoonotic disease Q fever in Bangladesh for the first time. With over 22 years of professional experience in veterinary disease investigation, production, and research, Dr. Islam has made significant contributions to the field. He has authored an international book on the retained placenta in dairy cows and published 68 full-length articles in national and international journals. His research work includes projects on toxoplasmosis in small ruminants and pigeon diseases in Northern Bangladesh, funded by various organizations including the Ministry of Science and ICT and the Krishi Gobeshona Foundation (KGF). Dr. Islam is actively involved in various professional and voluntary organizations. He holds memberships in the Bangladesh Veterinary Council, Bangladesh Livestock Society, and Bangladesh Veterinary Association, among others. He also serves on the editorial boards of several scientific journals and holds leadership roles in organizations such as Rotary International and the Bangladesh Biodiversity Conservation Federation (BBCF). In addition to his professional and research activities, Dr. Islam is committed to community service, particularly in raising awareness about zoonotic diseases. He has participated in and organized various events, including World Rabies Day, and continues to contribute to the field through ongoing research and public health initiatives. |
