I am Dr. Sivi Varghese, a Lecturer in the Department of Fire Safety Engineering and Management at the International College of Engineering and Management (ICEM), Muscat, Oman. I hold a Ph.D. in Safety and Fire Engineering from Cochin University of Science and Technology (CUSAT), along with an M.E. in Industrial Safety Engineering and a B.E. in Mechanical Engineering.

My academic and research interests are mainly focused on fire safety engineering, pool fires, heat transfer, thermal radiation, fire dynamics, CFD modelling, industrial safety, and fire-resistant materials. My doctoral research investigated the experimental and computational behaviour of pool fires involving n-propanol, diesel, and their blends.

In addition to teaching undergraduate and postgraduate students, I am actively involved in research, student supervision, laboratory development, academic administration, curriculum development, and professional training activities. I have published research articles in peer-reviewed journals, contributed to conferences, and written articles on fire and safety topics for public awareness. I have also authored the book Fire Protection Engineering.

I have been involved in funded research projects, including research supported by Oman’s Ministry of Higher Education, Research and Innovation. My research activities also include work on fire-resistant wood, concrete exposed to elevated temperatures, thermal radiation, nanomaterials, and fire behaviour of materials.

Teaching is an important part of my professional life. I enjoy interacting with students, mentoring them, and helping them connect theoretical fire safety concepts with practical engineering applications. I was honoured to receive a Teaching Excellence Award for the academic year 2023–2024.

My long-term professional goal is to continue developing as an academic and researcher in fire safety engineering, contribute to high-quality research and publications, strengthen industry–academic collaboration, and support the development of safer buildings, workplaces, and communities.
