Abstract: The role of women is critical for holistic and inclusive growth in Philippine local governance and development since women are active partners in all aspects of society. This study contributes to the roles played by women by supporting the fundamental equality of women and men as viewed by the local officials and women representatives of the People's Organizations (POs) in General Santos City, Mindanao, Philippines. It also affirms the importance of providing equal access to resources and opportunities. This qualitative descriptive research uses Key Informant Interviews (KII) and archival research in data-gathering. The findings show that women's role is already a norm rather than an exception in the selected local government units. Moreover, challenges such as their lack of participation, funds, and information were also encountered.
