Abstract:
While the narratives often highlight the privilege of Buddhists in Myanmar, this research unveils a less acknowledged facet of historical neglect. Despite its rich and solid authenticity of Mrauk-U as a significant cultural and architectural heritage site, it has been overlooked in comparison to its more celebrated counterpart, Bagan. The absence of UNESCO’s recognition on Mrauk-U (although it is in tentative list) do not do justice to the challenges and struggles of ethnic groups in Myanmar. This study attempts to explore the nuanced dynamics of recognition on different groups within Myanmar. It seeks to reframe the discourse by highlighting the importance of recognizing in minority heritage places. Unfortunately, many historical sacred sites of other minorities from different faiths are no longer; leaving behind nothing more than traces and ashes. The cultural and historical richness of Mrauk-U within the broader context of Myanma Heritage was studied here in regards to reminiscing the country’s bygone days.
